Bayern Munich and Ribery extend the contract

Bundesliga is one of big five Europe’s football leagues and represents the highest level of German football. The top league was established in Dortmund on July 28, 1962 by the German Football Association and began from the 1963-64 season. There is a total of 18 teams participating in the competition. Bayern Munich was the most successful team in the Bundesliga and won totally 27 league titles. On 7 May 2018, Bayern Munich officially announced that they had signed a new one-year contract(to 30 June 2019) with Franck Ribery.

Franck Ribery was very happy. He said:“I’m proud to play another year for this great club. Munich has become my home. My family and I are very proud that I will wear a Bayern shirt next season.” It should be pointed out that Bayern will be led by Robert Kovac next season, and the current manager Jupp Heynckes will leave the club again at the end of the 2017-18 season.

Ribery, 35 years old, transferred to Bayern from Marseille in the summer of 2007 with a transfer fee 25 million euros, which became the highest fee at that time. As of May 2018, he has a total of 385 appearances for Bayern Munich, scoring 117 goals and providing 179 assists. As a core team member, Ribery helped the squad win eight Bundesliga titles, five German Cup titles, one German League Cup, 4 German Super Cups, one UEFA Champions League, one UEFA Super Cup and one FIFA Club World Club. In the 2017-18 season, Ribery was plagued by injuries but still played 32 games with 6 goals and 6 assists. He also helped the team win the Bundesliga. What’s more, he helped Bayern realize the dream of winning six consecutive league championships in the history of Bayern.

As an excellent footballer, Ribery also got a lot of individual awards. He was named French Player of the Year and German Footballer of the Year in 2008. He got UEFA Best Player in Europe Award and Bundesliga Player of the Year in the 2012-13 season. In addition, he was award Globe Soccer Best Footballer of the Year and FIFA Club World Cup Golden Ball in 2013.
